On December 14th at 11:30am my darling sweet little girl turned 1. Yes I managed to care for a tiny human, without many complications for an ENTIRE YEAR! Totally Amaze Balls if you are me 😉 Her Birthday was one to never forget. This crazy first time mommy went ALL OUT! We did a Finding Nemo theme, since that is her absolute favorite movie. I hosted the party here at home and went all out with ‘seaweed’ streamers, a pinata (mistake in December but worked out somehow anyway), a two level homemade Nemo Cake that I can honestly say is one of my proudest accomplishments in the cooking world, a candy bar labeled fish-propriately, and of course adult and kid friendly beverages! 🙂 The day was a blast! Of course my newly turned 1 year old didn’t want to nap, so when company started arriving I was incredibly nervous a melt down was around the corner, but true to a hostess, and just like her momma, she put on a smile and had a blast forgetting or pushing through how tired she really was! The little trooper made it through playtime, cake time, pinata time, and present time with absolutely no fuss. Needless to say once everyone left (probably by 6pm or so) she was wiped out, and I of course kept her up an extra hour and some until a proper bedtime – Momma needs her beauty sleep too!
So yes it was a beautiful party and a great time, but no, I will not EVER host a Birthday party 10 Days before Christmas here at my house again! I know fully understand why parents pay to go somewhere else for their kids birthday parties, especially in cold/rainy/crappy season like December. I will admit I was extremely stressed out and kind of a crazy person the entire week before her party. It is not easy throwing a party together between Thanksgiving, my Husbands Christmas Party, his Change of Command Dinner Parties, my foundation’s annual HUGE 5k Fundraiser (the morning of her party), oh yes, and Christmas Eve celebrated here at my house, followed by my Mom’s fabulous Christmas Dinner. Talk about a freaking exhausting month! So please forgive me my lack of posts. I seriously haven’t found the time! I am so glad her birthday was a success and it was a million times easier to take everything down, than it was to set it all up, and it was SO worth it! We did get it all on video, so someday, when she is a mom throwing her first birthday party she can watch it and finally appreciate all the effort that went into making it the BEST 1st Birthday my Baby Girl could get!! 🙂
Also please make note we are accepting contributions to her college fund for her future as a marine biologist specializing in Sharks, LOL! Her fascination with them started at 4 months old when she first laughed at, of course, Bruce the Sharks intro in Finding Nemo – most kids would probably cry – it still makes her laugh. At about 6 months old she was glued to the TV during Shark week, a program that makes me scared, and her smile. Crazy.
