As I put together the nursery for my coming VERY SOON baby girl, Vanessa, I realized I am having some storage issues. I tend to despise clutter and thanks to my mother, feel like every little thing has a specific place it needs to go. Well with a baby, especially a baby girl, there are A LOT of little things that are in the nursery…please keep in mind this is my first, so I had no idea how much stuff you need, want, and collect! We have hair bows, little mittens, little socks, tubes of all kinds of ointments/gels/creams. Then there are all the little hygienic items like thermometers, Q-tips, Rubbing Alcohol, hair brush, nail clippers, the list just goes on and on. Well I was in Wal-Mart and passed a clearance shelf that had those three drawer Sterilite brand plastic organizers for only $4! Now my baby girls room is not blue, BUT my best friend, Spray Paint, can change that in no time! And I need some organizing solutions for this girls room. So I bought two blue organizers, took them apart, spray painted the parts the colors I wanted, and now I have two beautiful organizers that match her nursery perfectly and provide her momma with the sanity of having a ‘place’ for all her little things! 🙂
Below are my project details step by step!

So I removed all the drawers and staggered them on top of each other and removed the lids as well. *Note you will have to spray the top of the lids, and the bottom since they flip up and expose their underside*

I spray painted my drawers silver, kind of an aluminum color. Make sure you get the sides and front of each drawer since in this kind of organizer the sides are exposed. My nursery colors are Lavender and Baby Grey so the silver is a great match for me!
TIP: Make sure you get spray paint that adheres to plastic! I used Rustoleum brand for these, and most my other projects.

Next you just have to spray paint your box shells. Line them up so you have enough space between to spray all 4 sides.

I decided to angle the two boxes when I spray painted exposing each side and make sure to spray the entire inside as well.

Once your paint drys – I let mine set overnight just to make sure-put them back together and you have your own custom organizers for your nursery…or any room that needs a little storage help!
As you can imagine putting this nursery together is proving to be a much bigger task than I had anticipated and I have taken on quite a few projects to make it the Nursery of My Dreams! I have come to the realization that the nursery will not be completed until after baby girls arrival, so thank goodness for the bassinet where she will sleep in our room her first couple months in the house anyway. But please check back often for additional nursery posts and at home projects including my current projects of refurbishing a dresser, making my own mobile for above the crib, and her welcome home wreath!
